AIhaji Ya’u Umar Gwajo-Gwajo was born at Gwajo-Gwajo town of
Natsalle ward area in 1963. He attended Gwajo-Gwajo Primary School
from 1972-1978. He then proceeded to Government Secondary School
Funtua from 1978-1983 passed out with Secondary School Certificate.
Between 1984-1985, he enrolled for pivotal course at U.P.E.
Teacher’s College Dutsinma where he obtained Grade II Teacher’s
Certificate. He joined the services of Daura Local Education Authority
starting as classroom teacher and later promoted to Headmaster. He
also obtained ADPA in 2002.
Alhaji Ya’u Umar Gwajo-Gwajo resigned his appointment with
Daura Local Education Authority in 1986 and joined the services of the
Kaduna State Water Board. With the creation of Katsina State in 1987,
he served as a billing Officer of Katsina State Water Board Daura
District up to 1990.
With the lifting of embargo on political activities by the
Military Government in 1990, young Alh. Ya’u Gwajo-Gwajo tested his
popularity within his locality, culminating in winning a seat at
Katsina State House of Assembly under the banner of Social Democratic
Party (S.D.P.) representing Mai’adua South. While in the House of
Assembly he served as Deputy Chairman House Health Committee. He also
served as a member of the Katsina Land Advisory Committee.
With the proscription of all political parties and suspension
of political activities by the Military in 1994, Alh3i Ya’u went back
to his Gwajo-Gwajo town where he continues staying with his people and
engages in business and farming activities.
In 1996 when whistle was blown for commencement of political
activities, the people of Natsalle ward of Mai’adua Local Government
area called their illustrious son Aihaji Ya’u Umar Gwajo-Gwajo to go
and represent them as a councillor, he gladly answered the call thus
becoming Councilloron non-party basis.
Satisfied with his representation as a Councillor his teeming
supporters and majority of the populace of the Local Government
decided that he deserved to move higher the ladder. He was elected as
the Honourable Chairman Mai’adua Local Government Council on 5th of
December 1998, sworn into office on 31 st of December
1998 under the umbrella of People’s Democratic Party.
With the expiration of tenure of elected council leaders in
January 2003, caretaker committees were appointed by the State
government, Mai’adua Local Government Council requested and pressed
for the appointment of their tested and trusted son Alhaji Ya’u
Gwajo-Gwajo thereby making state government to appoint him a Chairman
Caretaker Committee from February 2003 to December 2003.
Reliable Alh. Ya’u Umar Gwajo-Gwajo was reelected as
executive Chairman Mai’adua Local Government Council on December 2003
under People’s Democratic Party by his loved people. Aihaji Ya’u Umar
GwajoGwajo is happily married with children. His hobbies are reading
Holy Qur’an, Football, Farming and Travelling.
